What’s a Twitter Card?
It’s been a while since Twitter rolled out their “ad program” which utilizes special tweets, which they call “cards.” You can embed a special photo, video, or even email sign up right on the tweet, so your fans never leave Twitter. Imagine, getting people to sign up for your email list with just the click of a button!
So How do I create one?
First you have to be signed up for Twitter’s “ads” program – don’t worry! It’s free and easy to do. Simply go to http://ads.twitter.com.
Once you are signed up as an ads developer, then it becomes a bit trickier to create a card – in fact we had to get on a conference call with Clayton at Twitter HQ’s in San Francisco to be sure we understood what we were doing! So, we decided to create a video walking you through step by step:
What are the benefits?
You can do this entirely for free! And by creating a Twitter card, you not only have the advantage of getting easy email sign ups right through one-click on Twitter (and we have ours connected right to our Mail Chimp account) but you also get stats and feedback to see how effective your campaign is going.
Twitter cards are free to create and to send to your current Twitter followers, but if you have a bit of a budget, you can do some other things if you don’t mind paying:
- Promote your Twitter card to non-followers so it shows in their stream even if they are not following you.
- Direct your Twitter card to be shown to a particular Twitter account’s followers. So, if you want to target the followers of another user, you can do this with precision and use it to possibly gain new followers of your own.
Good luck with creating your first Twitter card and let us know how it goes!
