Disclosure: Tijuana Flats is one of our sponsors and is hosting the lunch at our annual conference FLBlogCon. They also invited us to help organize a recent blogger event, where food was provided complimentary. All opinions below are our own.
We always get questions about how to host a blogger event, and several restaurants are starting to do things very well, including Tijuana Flats.
Step 1: Tap Blog Influencers
Tijuana Flats reached out to not only us here at Gotta Get Blogging, but also the heads of the Central Florida Lady Bloggers on Facebook, which has over 1,000 Central Florida bloggers.
In addition to bloggers, Tijuana Flats also teamed with Yelp to organize a “Back to School” event which would showcase some great items on their menu.
Step 2: Plan the Night
Bloggers love to feel special so creating a unique experience is always a safe bet. Tijuana Flats wanted to showcase some items on their menu, so they set aside a special area of their restaurant and had servers bring the attendees different courses to the table to try – and thanks @EatMoreofIt for the pics!
Tijuana Trio (starter)- Chips, salsa, queso, guacamole
Flautas (entrée)- Flour tortillas lightly fried with cheese, chicken and beef combination, served with queso, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream
Bangin’ Chicken Burrito (entrée)- Crispy chicken tossed in our Smack My Ass Bangin’ Chicken sauce , grilled onions, grilled green peppers, tomatoes, cheese and ranch dressing
Now that’s a banging #burrito! @TijuanaFlats #tijuanaflats #FLBlogCon #YelpElite A photo posted by Eat More Of It (@eatmoreofit) on

Cookie Dough Flautas (dessert)- “The Original” Chocolate chip cookie dough loaded in a flour tortilla, lightly fried and topped with powdered sugar. Served with a side of chocolate syrup Overall it was a perfect menu for bloggers to sample!

Step 3: Encourage the Fun
By seating the bloggers and Yelpers together in that special area of the restaurant, “socialbility” was encouraged.
Also, there was a trivia game played where attendees could win a Tijuana Flats gift card to come back with their family for another great meal!
Step 4: Increase the Social Buzz
Attendees were encouraged to tweet, post Instagrams, and even write blog posts. But, don’t forget there are new tools available, like Periscope, where you an live stream the event from a smart phone:
Step 5: Be Social As the Event Organizer
Just like bloggers are social, we’re also easily excited when a brand retweets us and favorites our postings. And, don’t forget you are getting tons of great content to share on your own social media channels, so spread the love!
Good luck with your next event!
